My Story

This year I took on the challenge of a half marathon in the 2019 Run Melbourne event. We had 147 supporters join Team Stroke for the event, over 100 for the City to Surf in Sydney and Bridge to Brisbane events. I had the privilege of meeting some of our 147 participants at Run Melbourne before and/or after their race. It was both inspiring and heartbreaking to hear some of their stories, the reasons why they were running or walking for Team Stroke. The courage shown by each and every one of them has inspired me to take on my biggest challenge ever...to run (or walk in part!) a full marathon. I am both terrified and determined in equal measures but knowing amazing stroke survivors like Paul Fink in the photo with me (above) and my previous pacing partner Bill Deering has encouraged me. Paul did two marathons in his 20s and is now back to training in 5km+ events post his stroke. Bill has taken on ultramarathons during his post stroke journey. Our intrepid NSW women, Priya, Shelagh and Tracy who took on the City to Surf event this year...if they and so many of our other stroke survivors can challenge themselves every day to make their best recovery possible then surely I can drag myself around the 42.2km of the Melbourne Marathon 2019. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Stroke Foundation, the greater our impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

Blob

In 2019 there will be almost 56,000 new and recurrent strokes, that is one stroke every 9 minutes.
Stroke is one of Australia's biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. It kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer.
With your support the Stroke Foundation will partner with the community to raise awareness and work to prevent, treat and beat stroke.
Please join our team #fightstroke today!
Remember, as soon as you raise your first $50 you will receive your #fightstroke running shirt to train in and wear on the day.
